National Bank of Kazakhstan enters into strategic cooperation agreements with Cerberus, Brookfield

ASTANA. Nov 7 (Interfax) – The National Bank of Kazakhstan and its National Investment Corporation (NIC) have entered into a number of strategic cooperation agreements with major U.S. investment firms, the regulator’s press service said.

A National Bank delegation participated in the second Central Asia-U.S. summit in the C5+1 format during Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s visit to Washington.

The press service said that, the National Bank and NIC on the sidelines of the summit entered into a number of strategic cooperation agreements with Cerberus Capital Management, Brookfield Asset Management, and Ashmore Investment Advisors.

“U.S. investment companies and NIC intend to leverage their institutional experience to expand investment opportunities in Kazakhstan and develop capital markets, with potential for scaling to the Central Asian and Caucasus regions as part of the initiatives,” the press service said.

Furthermore, the National Bank of Kazakhstan and the Visa global payment system signed a memorandum of cooperation during the summit.

“The parties intend to establish a Competence Center within the National Payment Corporation of the National Bank to test innovative solutions in the payments market, including the piloting of card services using digital assets. Furthermore, one of the priority areas of the memorandum will be improving the work of the National Bank’s Anti-Fraud Center,” according to the statement.
