Mr. Johnston is a Managing Director and a senior team member for Cerberus Business Finance. In his role, he is responsible for sourcing, underwriting, and managing new middle-market cash flow lending opportunities. Mr. Johnston helped in the platform’s West Coast expansion, including opening the San Francisco office to execute on opportunities with leading private equity sponsors and financial intermediaries in Northern California and the Pacific Northwest.
With more than 27 years of experience in commercial finance and direct lending, Mr. Johnston has extensive expertise in loan originations, credit underwriting, and portfolio management across various sectors. Prior to joining Cerberus in 2017, Mr. Johnston was a Managing Director and Partner at White Oak Global Advisors, where he was responsible for the firm’s private debt funds, and a Senior Vice President at Wells Fargo Capital Finance. He has also held various credit, underwriting, and portfolio management positions at Bay View Capital and U.S. Bank.
Mr. Johnston graduated from Indiana University and is a member of the Association for Corporate Growth. He is a former Board member of the Commercial Finance Association and Turnaround Management Association.
